Mekong Delta · 2 to 5 nights
The delta has a handful of serious places to sleep. We build the trip around them.
Private journeys of two to five nights in the Mekong Delta, planned from the hotel outwards: a resort on the Hau River at Can Tho, a riverside hotel or a hillside lodge at Chau Doc, and a straight answer about the towns where nothing at that level exists.
Where to begin
Three ways in
People reach this site at different points. Some already want a short trip and need a route. Some have a town in mind and want to know whether it deserves a night. Some have read about one hotel and want to know whether it is the right one. Each starting point has its own page.
Start from a journey
Four sample journeys of two to five nights, each with the hotel, the drive times and the reasons for the order written down. See the journeys.
Start from a place
Can Tho, Chau Doc and Sam Mountain, Cai Be, and how the delta joins up with Saigon and Phu Quoc. See the places.
Start from the hotels
Six stays side by side: setting, published room counts, boats, season, nights, and when each one is the wrong choice. Compare the stays.
How we plan
Why the stay comes first in the delta
Many visitors see the Mekong Delta on a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City. Can Tho is about 170 km from the city centre by road, roughly three to three and a half hours each way even on the new expressways, and Chau Doc is about 235 km. A day trip to either spends more of the day in a car than on the water.
Sleeping in the delta changes that arithmetic. From a hotel on the Hau River the boat to Cai Rang floating market takes thirty to forty minutes, so you can be there between six and half past seven, when the market is at its fullest, and back for breakfast before the heat builds. In April the average daily high in Can Tho is close to 34 °C; a pool and a shaded room at midday are not decoration here, they are how the afternoon becomes usable.
The catch is that the delta has very few stays at a level we would call luxury. We compare six on this site, and one of those comes with a caveat. That short list decides where our journeys go, how long they stay, and which towns we pass through rather than sleep in.

Where to stay
The six stays, one line each
| Stay | Where | What it is | Nights we suggest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Victoria Can Tho Resort | Cai Khe, Can Tho, on the Hau River | Garden resort, colonial-style main building, two pools | 2 |
| Legacy Mekong, Can Tho (formerly Azerai) | Con Au islet, Hau River, east of central Can Tho | Island resort reached only by boat from a mainland pavilion; now in Marriott's Autograph Collection | 2–3 |
| Nam Bo Boutique Hotel | Ninh Kieu pier, central Can Tho | Seven suites above a restaurant, facing the river | 1–2 |
| Victoria Chau Doc Hotel | Chau Doc riverfront, Hau (Bassac) River | Riverside hotel with pool; lists its own speedboat to Phnom Penh | 1–2 |
| Victoria Nui Sam Lodge | Slopes of Sam Mountain, outside Chau Doc | Hillside bungalows over rice fields, infinity pool | 2 |
| Mekong Lodge | Cai Be, on the Tien River | Riverside bungalows; its website looks out of date | 1 |
The full comparison adds published room counts, how you reach each one, the months that suit it and the cases where we would steer you elsewhere. Each row there carries its source and the date we read it.
Every hotel named on this site is named as a public fact, read on the hotel's own pages or the operator's pages on the date shown under each section. Naming a hotel does not mean we hold a contract, an allocation or a special rate there. Room counts appear only where the hotel publishes them.

Where luxury runs out
My Tho, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Sa Dec, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Long Xuyen and Ha Tien all have something worth seeing. None of them has a stay from the list above. Published local guides put ordinary hotel rooms in Sa Dec at roughly 500,000 to 1,000,000 VND a night, and that is the level you should expect in most delta towns.
We handle this in two ways. Where a town is within about an hour of one of the six stays, we visit it as a half day and sleep at the better hotel. Vinh Long is about 40 km from Can Tho, Sa Dec and Soc Trang about 60 km. Where it is further, we say so plainly and let you choose between a long day and a simpler room. We do not relabel a town hotel as a luxury stay to make an itinerary look even.
Our page on when luxury is worth it here goes further: some delta trips gain little from a high-end hotel, and we would rather say so than sell one.

How it works
- 01
Send the form
A month, how many are travelling and how many nights you have. A hotel name helps if you have one.
- 02
Get a draft by email
Each stay named, with the room category, the nights, the drive times and a price for the whole trip.
- 03
Change what you like
Swap a hotel, add a night, drop the guide on a day you want free. Every version is priced again.
- 04
Confirm in writing
We check availability with the hotels, then send a written confirmation before any payment.
The details are on how to book.
Who we are not the right choice for
- Travellers who want a day trip from Saigon. Every journey here includes at least two nights in the delta.
- Anyone looking for a homestay, an overnight boat or a speedboat day. We do not plan those.
- Trips that need luxury hotels in every town the route touches. The delta does not have them, and we will not pretend otherwise.
- Groups larger than one or two vehicles. Our journeys are planned for a single private party.

Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Is two nights enough for the Mekong Delta?
For one base, yes. Two nights at Can Tho give you one early morning on the river and one unhurried afternoon. If you want Chau Doc as well, plan four nights; the drive between the two is about 120 km.
Which hotel in the delta is the most comfortable?
It depends on what comfort means to you. The islet resort at Can Tho offers the most seclusion, the Victoria Can Tho Resort the easiest access, and the Nui Sam Lodge the view. The comparison page sets out the trade-offs for each.
Do you publish prices?
Journey prices are quoted on request, per trip, because the hotel rate on your dates is most of the cost. The pricing page lists the rates and fares that hotels and boat operators publish, with the date we read them.
Can we add Saigon or Phu Quoc?
Yes. The five-night journey ends with a road and fast-boat transfer or a flight to Phu Quoc, and any journey can start with nights in Saigon. Hotels in Saigon and on Phu Quoc are quoted at your choice.
